Things You Need for Your Super Bowl Party

Updated: Sep 11

When the Big Game comes around, few things are more enjoyable than watching the game with your friends and family. However, a lot of preparation goes into hosting a Super Bowl party. You must consider the same factors as if you were hosting a house party, such as decorations, food, drinks and entertainment.

We've put together this Super Bowl party checklist so you don't have to. With our list, you can host the ultimate Super Bowl party that your guests will praise afterward. Check out our other guides if you plan to host game-day parties before the big game.

Large TV

Super Bowl party must-haves include a large TV. The entire point of a Super Bowl party is to watch the game, so you want the best picture and audio quality you can get. Here are the features to look for when buying a TV to watch sports:

  • 120 Hz: This refers to the refresh rate, which indicates the number of frames displayed per second. Most TVs have a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which can lead to some blurry objects. A refresh rate of 120 Hz is a way to counter this motion blur.

  • 65 inches or more: The bigger the TV, the better. Bigger TVs can catch more detail in the playing field and show you the full benefits of 4K resolution.

  • OLED vs. LED: LEDs are brighter than OLEDs, but OLEDs have a wider viewing angle. Consider the room lighting and the number of people at your watch party to decide between OLED and LED.

Sound Bar

Another item on our Super Bowl watch party checklist is a sound bar speaker system. Sound bars are an excellent investment for large TVs. They enable the sound quality to match the visuals. When shopping for a sound bar, you want it to:

  • Have three or more channels: A sound bar with three or more channels can simulate surround sound.

  • Be an active sound bar: Active sound bars have built-in amplifiers.

Additional Speakers

Additional speakers are on our Super Bowl party list because you probably won't be watching the game the entire time. When you're busy preparing food in the kitchen or entertaining your friends with a game of pool, you can still track the score with an additional speaker. A wireless or Wi-Fi-connected speaker is a good choice for portability and easy setup — just make sure it is compatible with your other speaker set if you plan to link them.

Eco-Friendly Plates and Utensils

A party typically involves food and snacks, which require easy-to-clean plates and utensils. While you could use your dinnerware and flatware sets, you would have to wash all those dishes later. Depending on the number of people attending your party, it may be a good idea to invest in eco-friendly plates and utensils.

Don't forget eco-friendly cups, napkins, and paper towels. Depending on the menu, you may also want to consider wet wipes for easy cleaning with chicken wings or similarly messy foods.

Snacks and Food

It usually isn't a party without food, which is why we've put together this list of popular food items:

  • Chip sampler

  • Dip

  • Buffalo chicken wings

  • Chili

  • Hot dogs

  • Hamburgers

  • Cocktail sausages

  • Meatballs

  • Football-themed cookies

  • Veggie trays

  • Fruit trays

  • Football-themed cake

  • Handheld desserts

Coolers

You want to offer your guests plenty of cool and accessible drink options. An excellent way to do this is with coolers. Depending on the number of guests, you can opt for a large or small cooler. The Yeti Tundra hard cooler is a long-lasting option for both large and small uses, thanks to its exceptional ice retention capabilities.

There are several brands, types, and sizes available online and in retail stores, allowing you to find the best one for your needs and budget.

Football Themed Decor

Since you're hosting a Super Bowl watch party, the theme is set, making it easier to buy decorations. Some football-themed decorations you can purchase include:

  • Tablecloths

  • Napkins

  • Balloons

  • Food trays

  • Beer glasses

  • An inflatable football stadium food display

  • Individual can coolers

  • Drink coasters

  • Team socks and jerseys

  • A banner

  • Super Bowl ticket party invitations

Slow Cooker

Slow cookers are amazing hands-off cooking appliances. You put all the ingredients into the pot, turn it on high or low, and let it cook for hours. Usually, you don't have to do anything else, making them great for parties and party food.

Meatballs, cocktail sausage,s and other dishes are excellent for slow cookers. The best part is that you can turn your slow cooker to its ‘keep warm’ setting once the food is ready so it doesn't get cold.

Tables and Chairs

You want to ensure that everyone has a seat for the game and that there is sufficient space on the tables for all the food. Folding tables and chairs are particularly useful in these scenarios. These extra tables and chairs are easy to store, set up, and wipe clean. They last a while, so that you can use them for other parties or gatherings.

Entertainment

Most parties have classic games for guests to play, and you will probably want to take a break from watching the game to entertain your guests. You can hear the score from another room while playing a game with your external speaker set. Games are also good ways to fill the time before the game while waiting for everyone to arrive.

Some fun party games include:

  • Foosball: A football party isn't complete without a game of foosball. This competitive tabletop game is based on soccer, and it's easy to play with two people or separate teams.

  • Air hockey: This competitive game is enjoyable, no matter your age. You and your guests can divide into teams based on the teams playing the big game. If a team you are playing for scores, you could give that team half a point or a point.

  • Darts: Darts provide quality entertainment that everyone can enjoy. Take a break, shoot some darts, and make friendly bets.

  • Shuffleboard: While you can play shuffleboard outside, a shuffleboard table lets you bring the fun inside to keep your eyes on the game. The indoor game is similar to the outdoor version, but you play it with your hands instead of paddles.

Elevate Your Entertainment Space

Playing games is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend time with family and friends. In an age of video games and technology, taking the time to connect by disconnecting is relaxing. Classic games are a form of quality entertainment that strengthens bonds and life skills.
